Ok cool deal
Grabbed the plugin and testing it on a new site now. Using the latest version of WP. SHall give you a shout should i run across any problems.
Regards
Off-it
I wonder how you can assume a result made by computer-generated computations (using JavaScript) ensures a comment is written by a humain being. All your plugin does is to ensure one uses a browser to post a comment. Say I develop a Firefox plugin to spam your blog. Your plugin won’t be able to stop it.
Moreover, what happens if a visitor has deactivated JavaScript in his browser? What would happen if the user is behind a proxy server? I guess visitors won’t be able to comment in both cases…
You are right about the first part. Yes, someone can use a browser to spam. But do spammers do that? Won’t it considerably slow them down? No plugin is foolproof. Spam and anti-spam tech evolves constantly. For *now* this works.
Yes, it clearly does require JavaScript. But, about 94% users have JavaScript enabled as of Jan 2007 (source: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp). That number is likely more now if you notice the trend. For me its a choice between using a captcha and inconveniencing 100% of my visitors or <6%.
No, proxies don’t matter (unless the proxy filters out JS).
BTW, thanks for your comments. If you have any suggestions please do let me know.
It looks like you got your idea and the name of your plugin from WP-SpamFree. Also you have copied most of the text in the bullet points of your description from that plugin as well-almost word for word. You need to be careful because that is a DMCA violation. With GPL you have to give attribution for code,but you can’t copy marketing text or descriptions.

Not true, in fact I first saw WP-SpamFree after I had completed the plugin and was writing a description (not very good at documentation, I was looking what other similar plugins had written). After reading WP-SpamFree’s feature list I couldn’t write mine another way since both plugins essentially offer the same advantages. But you are right, that’s a terrible thing to do in the age of DMCA (though I am not a US citizen
) and I’ll reword my feature list in the next update.
The idea is not really the same either. My plugin uses time-based hash (generated on the server side) and JavaScript (AJAX) while WP-SpamFree uses JavaScript and cookies. If you look at the code I am sure you’ll find no similarities there either.
Anyways, thanks for looking at my plugin and I hope you’ll still give it a try. Criticism (constructive or otherwise) is always welcome
.
Nice plugin
Hi!
Your plugin is very promising, but it doesnt work together with Better Comments Manager.
Could do you make your plugin compatible with it? (maybe make some check about if the user is logged, and if logged no need to make hash check).
oh thx 4 plugin
Just downloaded and ran your plugin and got this error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in line 73.
Added a “;” at the end of line 72.
So far it has been great, and doing a great job of picking out tags. Any chance that this plugin can do it to all post automatically?
Thanks for letting me know. I had fixed that but forgot to update the .zip. You can download it again.
That’s a good idea. I’ll try to add bulk tagging for existing in the next version.
Hi there, I’d love to use your plugin but unfortunately it stopped all comments from comming in. Once the user clicks “submit comment” it says “please wait…” and nothing happens. The theme we are using is wp-magazine.com
thanks!
Hi Sandra,
Thanks for letting me know. Can you enable the plugin on your blog for a little while so I can see what’s going on?
Hi,
I had not uploaded the .php file right into the plugin directory. Ooops! IT works now and it’s a beauty! Thank you soooooo much!
Bulk tagging / automatic tagging is a good idea. I’m looking forward to the new version.
However, will it be possible to tag already existing posts?
Hi,
Can you possibly make an option of auto-tagging the post with all the yahoo tags when it’s published, so that the author can let the script can take care of any tagging matters?
Hi There,
I installed the plugin and noticed that my comment spam levels dropped to zero. This is great! However, I tried to post a comment on one of my posts, in response to some elses comment, and noticed that the form would not sumbit. When I clicked on the “Post Comment” button, it turned into a “Please wait” and then just stopped. The comment never got posted. I tried several times with the same result. When I de-activated the plugin I could post comments again.
Any idea what might be causing this? Anyone else experienced a similar issue?
Thanks,
Stephen
Stephen,
You may have uploaded the captcha-free.php file to a sub-directory of your plugins folder. Please upload captcha-free.php directly to /wp-content/plugins folder. Let me know if this works for you.
Hi there! I like the idea of using this plugin to add images to my posts. Just a question about the way it searches flickr: does it return only Creative Commons images, or does it return all kinds of copyright images?
This does not work i have uploaded it to two wp sites viewed it in IE and FF but the tag box to put your keywords.tags does not show up the pop up appears and asks you to entere them but there are no fields in which to do so??
Hi,
I really like your plugin. It doesn’t appear to be compatible with WP 2.5 though, any plans to make it compatible?
Hi There:
I have installed the plugin, but it doesn’t work when I click “Get Images” – it just hangs and does not return results.
Is there something that I am missing out on configuration wise?
Best Regards,
Angela
Torabayashi,
I’ll add an option of auto-tagging in the next update.
Paul,
I don’t know what is going to be different with WP 2.5 but I will try to make the plugin compatible when its released.
GeekMom,
From what I understand, Flickr API returns images under one of the CC licenses only. But I’ll confirm that. I the next version I’ll add an option to select specific CC licenses when getting images.
ash,
Have you added some content to your post before clicking “Get Images”?
Angela,
Which version of WP are you using? Which browser ae you using? Are you getting any error messages? I can logon to your WP admin and check whats going on if you give me access, but I undestand if you don’t want to.
Love this one! Nice to see capoeira is getting more exposure around the world…in all forms!
Yep i have content, on the site i was tying to use it on the pages that i currently have with full articles on, but nothing?? click the button, get images and nothing happens??
iDope, thanks for your response. I just thought I’d check, because people tend to be so touchy about their copyrights, and I wouldn’t want to offend or anger anyone at flickr.
Hey there,
I’m trying to use this on my site, but when I click to get photos it just sits there most of the time. Every once in a while it says can not connect tol flckr. Can you help?
Update: Added option to automatically tag post on save.
ash, Can you send me a screenshot of the popup you mentioned?
I appreciate the update, it’s very handy to auto tag on save. I thought I’d let you know, there’s still a problem with WP 2.5 however, clicking the ‘Suggest Tag’ button doesn’t work, it only results in an error, fortunately using the button isn’t actually needed anymore.
–Paul
I can’t get this to work. I installed it, activated it, and even configured the options. But no emails are triggered. I checked my spam folder as well so that is not where they’re going either.
Pending review notifications will be only send when a post is ‘pending review’ (posts directly published will not generate any notifications).
Approval or declined emails will not be sent if you used the same account to post and then approve.
Hi,
After installing WP 2.5-RC2, I’m getting an error on the auto draft save function that appears to relate to your plugin.
The error is:
Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #2 is not an array in/home/macnight/public_html/wp-content/plugins/auto-tagger.php on line 130
Warning: array_walk() [function.array-walk]: The argument should be an array in/home/macnight/public_html/wp-content/plugins/auto-tagger.php on line 131
Warning: array_unique() [function.array-unique]: The argument should be an array in/home/macnight/public_html/wp-content/plugins/auto-tagger.php on line 132
Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in/home/macnight/public_html/wp-content/plugins/auto-tagger.php on line 133

If this is your issue, as it seems to be, would this be something you can fix easily enough?
Peace,
Gene
I wanted to add a new wrinkle. That error appears only on the initial auto save of a draft post. On subsequent auto saves, after I do a full save of the post, there is no problem. I hope that doesn’t make this all the more difficult for you to figure out.
Peace,
Gene
Ok, thanks for listening!
I keep getting this pop up
“Error: cannot connect to Flickr”
New to blogging and gutted to have spam comments – got my hopes up that I had some readers! When I found your plugin via Wordpress the hopes have gone up again. I will let you know if there are any issues. Thanks for your time and know how.
I get this JS-Error Message when i click: get Images
sack is not defined
var mysack = new sack(”http://www.my-url.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php” );
It’s still not working.
Don’t work for me. When you click on the “Get images” buttom, the next error is show in the console error of Firefox:
****************************************************************
Error: sack is not defined
Origin: http://SITE/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=3
Line: 300

I’m ussing the WP 2.3.3
How frustrating. I have tried this with 5 different web browsers on my Mac (including Camino, Firefox, Safari, Flock & Sunrise) and it won’t work in any. It loads the pictures, but they are not clickable… I am on WP 2.3.3 so that’s not the problem…
hi!
seems to be a cool plugin! unfortunately it also doesn’t work on my wp installation (IE&FF). simply hangs… it’s a pity
matt,
You will get that error when the Flickr API service is down (happens once in a while) or there are connectivity issues between your server and Flickr.
jackdc & TrAk & eric,
I have made some changes. Can you please update and let me know if this works for you?
Stefanie,
Are your using the advanced visual editor or the plain text editor?
iDope,
Now, when I click on “Get Images” appears an error that sais “Cannot connect to Flickr”.
I think that is problem of my hosting, I try to check with another one and I told you what hapen.
Thank you for the upgrade.
Stefanie,
I have released another update and it should now work with the simple editor as well.
Yeah, I’m using the basic editor, and it works now
It does return pictures with © All rights reserved, so I would recommend to others to check the photos they are using before posting to make sure the only use CC photos.
So I edited it to only include CC licensed images, if anyone is interested.
In decoratr.php, near the bottom, change this:
$api_key=’6833ce889f21fffcaa88f2aaabbea4f4′;
$request = “http://api.flickr.com/services/rest/?api_key=$api_key&method=flickr.photos.search&format=json&tag_mode=all&per_page=$count&sort=$sort&$mode=” . urlencode($keyword);
to this:
$license=’1,2,3,4,5,6′;
$request = “http://api.flickr.com/services/rest/?api_key=$api_key&method=flickr.photos.search&format=json&license=$license&tag_mode=all&per_page=$count&sort=$sort&$mode=” . urlencode($keyword);
Oopsie. Don’t delete the api_key code, just add license after it, like this:
$api_key=’6833ce889f21fffcaa88f2aaabbea4f4′;
$license=’1,2,3,4,5,6′;
$request = “http://api.flickr.com/services/rest/?api_key=$api_key&method=flickr.photos.search&format=json&license=$license&tag_mode=all&per_page=$count&sort=$sort&$mode=” . urlencode($keyword);
Ok, I apologize for flooding the comments, but it isn’t posting properly. If you want the fixed code to return CC license only images, pop me over an email at contact@focusorganic.com
I have been getting the same errors as Gene, the solution was fairly simple. I added these lines to auto-tagger.php and it seems to work for me…
if ($results['ResultSet']['Result'] == “”) {
return $tags;
exit();
}
Just find….
129. $results=unserialize($response);
130. $tags=array_merge(explode(’,',$tags), $results['ResultSet']['Result']);
and change it too…
129. $results=unserialize($response);
130. if ($results['ResultSet']['Result'] == “”) {
131. return $tags; exit();
132. }
133. $tags=array_merge(explode(’,',$tags), $results['ResultSet']['Result']);
Okay I made a small typo in my code, sorry guys. instead of “if ($results[’ResultSet’][’Result’] == “”) {” on line 130 you need to put “if (if (!is_array($results['ResultSet']['Result'])) {) {”
I’ve just upgraded to WP2.5 – apparently, with the admin changes, this plug-in can’t really work. As soon as I click the “Get Images” button, the post saves and publishes (which is annoying), and I’ve found no way around it. Are you planning on updating this for 2.5s admin update?
This doesn’t seem to be working with WordPress version 2.5
Some details please. What did you try (the steps you followed) that didnt work as expected?
I’ll add 2.5 support once I upgrade.
I figured it out. I think it was something with my mail settings but found a work-around using the wordpress@domain.com email as default. It’s working fine now. Great plugin!
Strange I’m running 2.5 as well.
Just looked, did you copy and past the code from above?
Just tried it my self and the quote simples been changed. double check that the correct single quotes are being used in the code, and if your still having problems.
Are you getting the same error message or has it changed at all?
Hey:
I just upgraded to WP2.5 (latest stable), and while the flckr worked before, now when I click on the “get Images” button, it hangs then jumps to the “Manage” page. Any ideas? I also uninstalled and downloaded the latest version from the top of the page and reactivated.
I’m not getting an error, the tags just aren’t showing up in the tag box for me when I click the ’suggest tags’ button
Stuart: I tried pasting in your code snippet but it caused a fatal error and the website would no longer load.
Reality: I think you’re seeing the same problem I am, you click the button and nothing seems to happen. But additionally, in IE7.0 anyway, you’ll see an error icon in the status bar, double click the icon and a message box pops up with the error message. Browser settings will also affect when and if you see the errors in the page.
Plugin Author: There appears to be two distinct problems, 1) errors displayed when saving posts and pages, 2) clicking the auto tag button doesn’t add the tags.
–Paul
Would be cool to see this work on the user registration form.
thanks.
I installed this and it works with no problem. 2 things, though.
1) When getting images from Flickr, is this tearing up my bandwidth?
2) When you click an image, the link goes into your text area, but there is really no indication that it has done anything. It would help if, after you click, you see a message or something visual telling you that the link has been added to your text area. I thought it had done nothing until I scrolled back up to my editing area and saw the link had been added.
This looks like a fantastic tool for gathering images. It also doesn’t work for me on WP2.5. I look forward to a new release with the proper CC license and v2.5 support. Keep up the great work!
Sorry to bother – but any idea when you might upgrade and add 2.5 support?
Stephen,
I bet you are running WP 2.5
I had captcha free running on 2.3.?
After upgrading to 2.5 i had the same as you. I gues captcha-free doesnt work on 2.5
It’s not working for me. I installed and activated the plugin, but the spam is getting right through.
Thanks for a great plug-in!
nice work
Love this plug. However, I’m installing it in a site that has over 150 posts … no tags. Is there a way to tag them without going through and then save again?
Hi,
I keep getting the error: Invalid Data: Please go back and try again.
I figure it has to do with the code below, but I can’t seem to make it work. It does work for some visitors but not others.
// Validate the hash
add_action(’preprocess_comment’, ‘cf_comment_post’);
function cf_comment_post($commentdata) {
// Ignore trackbacks
if($commentdata['comment_type']!=’trackback’) {
// Calculate the timehash that is valid now
$timehash=timehash($commentdata['comment_post_ID'],time());
// Calculate the timehash that was valid 1 hour back to give some cushion
$timehash_old=timehash($commentdata['comment_post_ID'],time()-3600);
if($_POST['captchafree']!=$timehash && $_POST['captchafree']!=$timehash_old)
wp_die(’Invalid Data: Please go back and try again.’);
}
return $commentdata;
}
Maybe you can update your entry/plugin to show if/make it wordpress 2.5 compatible.
I installed this on 2.5, but I don’t think it works with the new dashboard. The screenshot looks like my earlier version of WordPress. What am I missing Thanks!
Do you plan to update this for WP 2.5?
Hi, can any body help me, how can i Upload it on Wordpress?
Ehsan
Simple suggestion for future updates: the tag containing “Spam protection by WP Captcha-Free” should have an id attribute.
Anyway, nice plugin. Seems to be working well for me.
Can you please make this compatible with the Wordpress 2.5?
Thanks.
I’ve installed Captcha-Free on my blog, running WP 2.5.1, when a comment is posted, you just get forwarded to Google, for some reason, and the comment isn’t posted?!
http://hintofsarcasm.com is the address, any ideas?
I installed this the other day, and it’s fabulous. I’m getting more comments than I was with the often faulty, always irritating captcha software I was using before. Just one thing, though. People who use AOL’s browser are getting an error when they try to post: Invalid data. Please go back and try again. Any thoughts I can pass along to them, or are they SOL?
On my wordpress 2.5.1 clicking on suggest tag closes the window and saves the suggested tags to the article. I expected suggestions I can approve – not a forced add.
Anyway, the plugin is a great idea – I really hope you polish the code so it works with the 2.5.1 Version …
Can anyone of you help me adding a function that excludes some tags (I’ve already tried wp_tag_cloud(’exclude=word1,word2);…
Best regards,
Alexander.
Thanks. This is great.
really great

So this doesn’t seem to work anymore.. I don’t see the captcha and it’s not asking me to confirm any image….
great idea and work! thanks
Is there any img verification for posting?
The aim of this plugin is not having to use image verification.
Not working for me WP 2.5.1
Version 2.5.1 I’m getting this error
PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in /var/www/peter/blog/wp-content/plugins/auto-tagger.php on line 118
Hi there
I cannot get it working with 2.5 or 2.5.1. I would love to see an update. Mine saves the post and refuses to display images.
My posts were a lot more interesting when I had 2.3.3 and could include pics.
Any news on the update?
Any plans on updating the plugin for post 2.5 support?
It’s really an excellent idea.
Keep up with the good work
Excellent theme, nice clean code with no author ad code or bugs
“I’ve just upgraded to WP2.5 – apparently, with the admin changes, this plug-in can’t really work. As soon as I click the “Get Images” button, the post saves and publishes (which is annoying), and I’ve found no way around it.”
Same here on v2.5.1
Mmmm…. que mal ya no funciona en Wordpress 2.5
I have 2.5.1 and it does not work. When I click it, it takes me to the manage posts screen.
I can not seem to get this plugin work for me….
I tried the download…and I get errors.
I then tried to edit the script like suggested above with no luck.
I keep getting error messages when even try to activate the plugin.
Can someone please help me find a working copy of this plug…please and thanks.
Cheers
Chad
Here is the section of code were the issue seems to be:
if(curl_errno($ch)) return curl_error($ch);
curl_close($ch);
$results=unserialize($response);
if (!is_array($results[’ResultSet’][’Result’])) {) {
return $tags; exit();
}
$tags=array_merge(explode(’,’,$tags), $results[’ResultSet’][’Result’]);
please help me find whats wrong with the code or if any have a working plugin please provide and download for this plugin.
Thanks in advance.
Chad
thanks
Hi – Just downloaded the plugin on June 2nd & got the errors listed above – tried editing the file as per your comment and now get a fatal error unexpected T_IF – can you update the zip file to be correct so I can reinstall it please?
I am on WP 2.5.1
i installed this on my wp 2.5 blog
http://sean808080.com and when i click on get images it just goes back to the dashboard and says your post was saved.
upon looking at the blog, nothing has been added at all. there is content in the post.
any ideas? i’d love to try this out!
When people try commenting on my Wordpress MU site all it does now after you click submit comment is to change that button to “Please wait”. So no new comments can be added.
100% spam free though
Work in new version WP ?
OK, it was working. Now when clicking the Get Images button, it is just saving the post and not getting the images.
Work PERFECT !
Like d2k
(Posted March 30, 2008 at 3:37 pm) when I click on the “Get Images” button it saves as publishes the post.
WP v2.5.1
I like this a lot, but I think it is better more large and vertical menu have often fonts of the same color of background and this make them to be invisible…
The plugin has been updated for WP 2.5 (use the older version for WP 2.3).
It should work fine with WP 2.5. If you are getting errors please let me know.
@Thomas: Please make sure you copy the “captcha-free.php” file directly to the wordpress plugins folder and not to a subfolder.
Manual suggest working great now, thanks very much!
Where’s your donation button?
Peter wp 2.5.1
Is there a way to exclude certain words from being tagged?
I have updated the plugin to support Wordpress 2.5. Let me know if you face any problems.
Not working here… It just hangs when button pressed.
It seems to work ok for me, but I am using TinyMCE and the button only appears on the HTML toolbar, not on the main editor toolbar for some reason
Other than that, it works fine. Thanks very much
@Dave
Clear your browser cache and it should show up.
@Vladimir: What WP version and browser are you using?
Hello,
Couldnt find your email so I figured this would suffice. I have an idea for your autotagger plugin. Adding a function to allow it to mass auto-tag existing posts to your blog.
Thanks!
thanks
wow what a nice car!
and i love your website design . green with all sorta little buttefly heh its nice
This plugin looks neat for sure, although I would STRONGLY advise only returning creative commons images.
I’ve had plenty of my images stolen for use on other websites and blog posts with out my permission. While the technology you made is nice, cool, etc. it is NOT cool to use other’s photos w/ out asking for permission.
All it takes is a simple flickr / email and it might cost nothing to get approval. I’ve allowed my photos used for non commercial use. I DO require proper link credit (to my website, not just to flickr)
Thanks,
Adam in Phoenix, AZ
Auto Tagger is a great plugin
Thanks, this is exactly what i was looking for.
Just installed on 2.6 and after uploaded and activated I can not find the options anywhere. Please advise.
Hi! I would like to apply this to my website using microsoft page as my editor, I tried to copy and paste it but blogger is not accepting it. How come? Thanks
Does this plugin work on WP 2.6?
This is a great plugin
lousy PHP, even worse CSS… a complete waste of time and don’t even try to patch it up yourself if you’re planning on using this abortion of a WP theme…
Wordpress: 2.6
Theme: Redie 3.0 by Steve Arun
I have installed your plug-in and I get the following message after I try and comment on a post:
Invalid Data: Please go back and try again.
I have it disabled currently but would love to give it some use… spam bots are so annoying…
Thanks!
@Jason: Are you sure you copied the captcha-free.php file to /wp-content/plugins directly and not to a sub-folder?
@iDope: Thanks for the quick response. Yes I am sure that captcha-free.php is in /wp-content/plugins and not a subdirectory. I am assuming you are considering the wordpress directory the root? I deleted and just now redownloaded from this page and uploaded. Still nothing though. I get the same error.
permissions are 644 so I don’t think that is any issue. there isn’t any modifications to the template code that needs to be done, is there? (As I do not have a default template)
What happened to Auto Tagger in 2.6.1? It was working great but now I keep getting an error like the one above:
Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #2 is not an array in /home/yyyyyy/public_html/xxxxx/wp-content/plugins/wp-auto-tagger/auto-tagger.php on line 130
also on line 131 and 132
Please advice. I love this little plugin!
Thanks
@Kelly: I have updated the plugin. Please re-download it and let me know if it works for you now.
I have done everything above and got this error as well:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in ….. on line 130
Any suggestions?
Hello, can i use this plugin with roll manager too? when i test the plugin it doesnt work under wp 2.61.
the email arrive only to admin adress
regards from germany
Great plugin, tnx.
But i have problem – it’s ok to comment without login to wp, but if i login to my wp i see “Invalid Data: Please go back and try again.”
PS plugin is in root of wp-content/plugins/
I love this
iDope — I love this plugin. I am getting a similar error to the above in WP2.6.1 and plugin ver 1.3.1.
In the below case, I was posting via XMLRPC. Of 35 files, 3 returned this error and would not post. Error seems to be related to the previously mentioned error mentioned by @Kelly above.

I have the same problem as Kelly and I have just tried uploading the new version. My error says:
Warning: array_walk() [function.array-walk]: The argument should be an array in /home/…/wp-content/plugins/wp-auto-tagger/auto-tagger.php on line 131
Warning: array_unique() [function.array-unique]: The argument should be an array in /home/…/wp-content/plugins/wp-auto-tagger/auto-tagger.php on line 132

It only occurs when I try to save a post or publish a page. When I publish a post or save a page it works fine.
Super Themes !!! )))
Love this plugin, I’m wondering, though, if it’s possible to list the category or categories that the post belongs to in the email? We have editors responsible for each top level category and that being in the email would allow us to forward the emails to the appropriate editor.
Hello,
I would like to use this plugin to also enter the tags into the headers meta keywords. There is an outdated plugin that isn’t compatible with 2.6.x anymore that I used to use. The code I used was:
<meta name="keywords" content="post);
} else {
echo "*keywords*";
}
?>"/>
Is it possible to do something simular with your plugin?
The code didn’t copy right…. I think you got the idea though…
Daisy,
Thanks for the feedback! I have added this feature, please upgrade to the latest version.
Hi, I get this plug in to trigger any emails either.
I have my main account as admin (administrator) and I write the article and place it in a “pending review” state.
My spell checker guy is not getting any emails, they have an editor account only.
I have placed their email address in the settings box along with mine separated by a comma.
Settings->Status Notifications->Pending Review Notifications
I currently have 2.6.2 installed. Is there anything else that I am missing ?
Sorry about the duplicate post but it should read, that I can’t get this plug in to trigger any emails when it’s placed in “Pending Review”
Just My Life,
Can you try putting in just one email in the settings box?
I think I found the problem, after looking on my server it seems that the plug in sends emails as wordpress(AT)yourdomain.com in my case it was wordpress(!AT!)justmylifeingeneral.com
Since that user did not exist on my server, it would delete all emails or just not send them along their merry way. I created that user so it would have a mail box and presto it’s works for me. It would be nice if that was changed so the admin’s email is the one that was sent or someway to change besides poking around in the code.
Thanks,
That Guy
I am still getting the “array” errors above. I have downloaded the updated version and reuploaded the plugin several times. Any ideas?
Hi. Love the plugin. I am getting an error when posting javascript to a page (a Google video). The plugin tries to tag the page, and there is no checkbox to turn it off. Here’s the error

I have released an update that should fix the errors. Please get the updated version.
As I said in my post, I have downloaded and used the update and it gives errors as above. Is it possible that there is some conflict with other plugins??
You need version 1.3.2 which I released today. Are you having problems with this version too?
No – I didn’t realise there was an even newer version. I have now tested it and it seems to work perfectly. Thank you – brilliant service.
Hi,
I am using WP 2.5 and would love to use your plugin. I have just downloaded the latest version, and unfortunately it doesn’t work for me. When I activate the plugin, WP tells me that the plugin has been activated, but I don’t see any menu related to it (even in the write post section).
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!
Looks like it is working now
That’s the From address Wordpress itself uses for the notification it sends (comment, new user, etc.).
Glad it worked!
Hi,
I’m a little confused how the auto tagging works. Does it just do it, or do you have to do something? I have it activated but don’t see any other settings panels for it.
Thanks!
thats good themr ill use it for my persnal use
tanks
Hi
We are also going to start a blog soon and were wondering how to takle comment spam.
Thanks for the info!
It works in a very simple way, great work!
Hi there,
Great plugin and I appreciate it very much. Have a question though – is it possible to have some words/phrases to be excluded from being used as tags?
I have some not very HTML literate guest posters, and currently my most popular tags are “Rsquo” and “Nbsp”. Would love to get rid of those without manually editing posts, pleeeease..
Thanks a lot, Misha
Hi. Here’s a feature request – stopwords or words that can be excluded from the generated tag list. “nbsp” and “rsquo” are examples
this is fuckin awsome emos rock y’all i cut my self yo!
Thanks for this plugin. I like it but am a little confused. I have 2 blogs but one displays the categories and tags below each post and the other doesn’t. The plugin is activated in both. What am I missing in blogsunlimited.ca that needs to get the categories and tags appear below each post?
Your other theme might not support tags. IIRC, the tag enable your theme you have the insert the function the_tags() in your theme.
This plugin is great, but can be greater
Could you add following two functions?
- I have blog where everyone can register and post. Some people marks posts as ready for review, some don’t. When I review these posts, I delete ones which are not suitable for my site. Could you add option to notify author when post in draft or pending state is deleted?
- my blog is in Polish, so I would like to send emails in Polish too. Could you add options to configure email’s text?
Daniel,
Glad you liked the plugin. The plugin already has options to send approval and rejection emails to the authors. I’ll try to add an option to customize the messages in the next version.
Thanks for quick reply.
The plugin sends emails when I approve post or move it back to draft state, but it doesn’t send emails when I delete post in draft or pending state completely instead of approving it. I would like to send emails in this case too. I had looked a bit for available WP hooks and found that deleted_post hook should be appropriate for this.
Would be cool to see this work on the user registration form.
thanks.
thanks for them
I have a feed planet site is it possible to auto feeds as the come in?
will WP Status Notifier work on WP 2.6+ or 2.7?? please advise. thanks.
Good theme for Christmas!
Very good design. I am considering to use it.
Cool plugin, but I can’t install it on WP 2.7. Any plans to update it for 2.7?
Just tested this out in 2.7 – and it’s working perfectly!
Only one question/request – is it possible to have it send out a notice that a post is published on “scheduled” posts?
For example, a contributor submits a post for review on 12/17. I review the post on 12/17 and schedule the post for publication on 12/19 at 8:10am. Is there a way for the plugin to notify the contributor on 12/19 at 8:10am that their post was published?
The preview is broken.
GREAT PLUGIN.
Is there anyway this can run in a script mode on a batch of posts?
Randy Kreisel
same error as the other guy
Invalid Data: Please go back and try again.
nice theme
Great plug-in. I’ve been using this for a while without issue. One additional feature request:
When a post is published (regardless of whether it went to pending review or not) sending an email to a specific email address (as well as the author, as the plugin does now) to notify that a new post has been published.
Thanks!
Themes & Layouts are superb. The points you provided in your article are brilliant. I am really waiting for your next imagined.
Thanks and best of luck!
Works perfect in my WP 2.7 !
Top stuff as always from you. Possibility to quickly update it for bulk/automatic tagging?
hi. Thanks for plugin
perfect.
Regards
hey when i post and this plug in is active i get a white screen why?
This theme is great. I’m probably going to use it for my blog. Thanks!!
@kitich: I think your theme is not calling the ‘comment_form’ action when you are logged in.
@mike: You might not have cURL enabled. Please download the latest version, it checks for cURL.
@Vladimir & others: Bulk/Batch tagging is comming soon
Working well with 2.7 (Thank you!)
+1 for being able to receive notification of published/scheduled posts.
“The article is very informative as well as so creative. You have very great knowledge having this subject. So nice! It’s a great to see you here.
Thanks!
“
I absolutely LOVE this theme. Thank you.
Hi there. Great plugin that I’ve been getting some good use out of. Nice work.
I was just wondering if the notification will be sent when a comment is sent for moderation as well.
Grabbed the plugin and testing it on a new site now. Using the latest version of WP. easy installed and easy in use! this plugin helped alot and I did noticed that my comment spam levels dropped well. Thank alot!))
Great post!! I just have to copy it
HI I cant seem to work it out
Everytime i try to post a comment i keep getting this mesage: Invalid Data: Please go back and try again
I have the plugin in the plugins folder (_root)
What can i do?
Cheers!
MAC
Hello,
I need this plug in to have a list of words and phrases that are to be excluded from the suggested and auto populated tags.
There are some that I have to keep deleting. The plug in works correctly it’s just I want to avoid words like amp (&, and my name due to copyright on my footers).
Will you add this feature?
Many thanks in advance
Russell
Lets say I wanted to use your template for my blogsite, how would I go about importing it into wordpress.com??
Currently I’m using one of the pre-made themes.
How do I go about setting it up?
http://wordpresssupplies.com/wordpress-plugins/captcha-free/
This plugin doesn’t works. It shows only link to this page and no picture.
@smart maxx: I think you missed the point of this plugin. It stops spam *without* captcha.
@MAC: Send me a link to your blog and I’ll check it out.
@Jason: I believe Wordpress already does that.
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!
You make my life so much more fun. Thanks!
ROCK ON with the wordpress designs…..
Hi – is this template compatible with Wordpress 2.7?
Just installed on WP 2.7. It works great and will be a very handy tool!
thanks for sharing, nice themes
Amazing! Nice colors pickup, it looks effective. I really love this theme.
nice plugin
Plugin does not seems to work fine with wp 2.7. Any ideas?
Is this working on my blog? I thought that I would get a enter code below the captcha numbers/letters. ON mine nothing is happening. My blog is at http://blog.meleana.info it is a blog about flash, but I get all these porn comments, I don’t see the connection. Wordpress is too hard, and am not sure if I want to continue blogging as I spend way too long delete spam, yikes!
Thanks so much for all your hard work on creating some files to help prevent spam, I appreciate all your work.
Johnny
Nice. I like it!
Nice theme. I love it. Thank you!
Love the plugin, but when I activate the tag cloud, and click on a tag, nothing gets returned. Also, all my posts say tags: none.
Any ideas?
Thanks, now I see the difference. The contents of the comments are inititally hidden but when you click on comments, they appear underneath the post. Some blogs I’ve seen though, have the comments appear under the post without having to click on the comments link.:)
Excellent, thanks for the plugin!
Nice green!!!
Kind Regards from Germany
hey there!!!
i like the themes…
it’s so great.
may i have the css template??
Works great, thank you
Added this cool plugin and my spam went from over 40 a day to zero, nice ! WP 2.7.1 by the way.
I’ve used this for years and it works great: http://fortes.com/projects/wordpress/top-level-cats/
@David: Try this plugin, it doesn’t have the “Known Issues / Bugs” of the Top Level Cats plugin.
Does this also work for multiple-level-deep nested categories?
It’s a great plugin, thanks for your work!
I’m waiting too for the bulk/automatic tagging function
thanks a lot, finally this annoyance is gone as well. and so simple.
any cache should be rebuilt after activating the plugin.
bbb
@JamieO: Yes, it will work with nested subcategories.
@Irfan Faruki: What error are you getting?
@John Barrett: The purpose of this plugin is *not* have the commenter to type a CAPTCHA answer.
BTW, I have released a new CAPTCHA plugin, more secure but still does not require commentors to type a CAPTCHA. Just requires a click to solve.
http://wordpresssupplies.com/wordpress-plugins/clickcha/
Found bug(s) with it. Some of my pages work and some don’t.
Plugin just stopped working on main site, worked for over 3 months peerfectly fine with no changes or plugin updaes to anything else, Wordpress 2.7 MU??
Any answers IDope on the reason, and it is automatically not working on all blogs as of my last post earlier today at about 2:30 Pm Pacific Time?
Hi,
Thank you so much, I was one of the “unfortunate” ones that was using the other “top level” plugin mentioned above and then when 2.7 came out I got screw cause it was all buddy (hence if you didnt have .html) at the end it wouldn’t work,
I just installed YOURS and it works like a dream!
Thank you so much, If it wasn’t for the developers like you that provided all this cool stuff, well then it would just suck, but in fact people like you make it GREAT to be a blogger !
Thank you, you just made my day with this,
BTW: I found you on weblogs blog
Joseph
Does it break pagination (like the other)?
Hi there
I just updated to WP 2.7.1 and the Decoratr button has disappeared from TinyMCE – It was there up to and including upgrades to 2.7 but has gone now.
Can you advise what I can do to get it back?
Thanks again for a great plugin..
Dave
Hey thanks for a good SEO type plugin.Changing the /cats/ has to be better for SE and moving up a directory
Does this plugin work with category-pagination? Or does it brake pagination like the older / other one?
(Second try of the comment.)
@Joseph: Thanks for the kind words. People like you keep us motivated
@André Fiebig: Category pagination works fine.
@Nathan Rich: Can you show me some links that are not working?
I am facing a problem, it works perfect for TOP level categories, but sub-categories are giving 404 error, please help.
I love this layout. Did Ed Canape do any other layouts?
I’d like to see them.
Thanks!
My subcategories are not showing: http://cruisetastic.com/cruise-deals-by-cruiseline/carnival-cruise-deals
The main ones are fine, but the 2nd level ones aren’t working.
Ideas?
@Chelle & @Sanjay: I have fixed the plugin to properly handle sub-categories. Please get the updated version.
First thank you for making this problem it works fine…
Although I have one problem, when I am showing cats with their category rss feed, I am getting page not found in the rss… eg
domain.com/top-levelcat/feed/ error
domain.com/top-levelcat/secondlevelcat/feed/ error
my permalink structure is
/%postname%/
I have also tried
/%category%/%postname%/
Have tried adding category to the url the address bar but still no joy, anybody else suffering this problem
Update if I use
/%category%/%postname%.html/
as a permalink it works, but really do not want todo this. would really just like to have
/%postname%/
Thanks
@George Snyder: I have added proper support for category feed permalinks, please update to the latest version. BTW, this plugin does not affect your post permalink structure so you can have ‘/%postname%/’ or ‘/%category%/%postname%/’ or anything.
Version 0.1 didn’t work with my %postname% permalink structure, but 0.3 seems to be working fine. Thanks so much for this plugin, it’s exactly what I was looking for!
Problem with tags.
I have categories and tags with the same name but different content. With No Category Base active, the tag archive outputs the content of the category with the same name (although still displayed as /tag/tag-name/). Can this be fixed?
Fixed! Now it will not override tags with the same name. Please update to the latest version.
Ok, you have been busy, thank you for the quick fix and reply. Just have a new problem now that didn’t happen before the update, I am using the language plug qtranslate that ads the lang locale in the address field, so as in
domain.com/nameofcat default lang
domain.com/fr/nameofcat postorcat in French
domain.com/de/nameofcat postorcat in German
So it now removes the /fr/ or /de/ from the url, not good, I understand if this is out of the scope of the plugin, but it would be really nice to have this back, as it was if you see what I mean…
qtranslate info

http://www.qianqin.de/qtranslate/
Thanks George
@George: Since both plugins modify the category permalink I think it might be difficult to make them coexist. But I will look at it when time permits.
Really nice, clean theme. Is it possible or difficult to change the photo?
Thanks for this great plugin, spam influx went down to zero. But somehow I get an error (http 500) on my site, when I am using MS Internet Explorer 7 to leave a comment. Firefox works fine.
In the FAQ for the plugin, it says that the category will have priority over the page, whereas on this page it says that the page has priority over the category. I want the category to have priority for the exact reason mentioned in the FAQ, so that I can have them appear in my navigation. Is there a way to set the category to take precedence?
@Derek: The category will have priority. If it says otherwise somewhere its a mistake, let me know where and I’ll fix it.
The category isn’t taking priority on my installation. It is pulling up the blank page instead of the categories, though the categories pull up fine if I change the page slug.
Two categories with matching page slugs
- http://derekperkins.com/seatability1/news/
- http://derekperkins.com/seatability1/news/press-releases/
Two categories without matching page slugs
- http://derekperkins.com/seatability1/news/distributor-updates/online/
- http://derekperkins.com/seatability1/news/press-releases/
I do have the Redirection plugin installed, but I have checked multiple times and I have removed all references to my category / page slugs to remove any interference. I also tried deactivating it and I still encountered the exact same problems. Is there something else I should check?
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I forgot to mention, I’m running Wordpress 2.7.1 and the latest version of WP No Category Base.
I actually took my website live with those problems still active, so replace the links above with derekperkins.com/seatability1 with seatability.com.
I’m having the same issue as Derek. If I have a page and a category both called News, with WP No Category Base active, the page currently takes priority. I would prefer the category to take priority.
My workaround is to alter the page slug and set a redirect (Page Links To plugin) to the category name. However this creates unsatisfactory permalinks for subpages.
WP 2.7.1, latest No Category Base, latest Atahualpa theme.
@Shannon: I definitely agree with the ‘unsatisfactory permalinks for subpages’ comment. I can work around it for sure, but if the category can override the page slug as it is supposed to, that works perfectly.
The plugin works great however it does not redirect previous permalink w/ category base to the no-category base permalink .
This will hurt PR.
example;
I want to automatically redirect…
http://sitename.com/category/cat-name/postname
…to…
http://sitename.com/cat-name/postname
I didnt try it but according to the code categories should have had priority. I’ll look into it.
Hey,
Great plugin works well apart from if you have a category that currently has no posts in it, it just shows a 404 error, whereas when its not installed wordpress will just say no posts in this category.
Nevermind my last post, it seems because i downloaded it through wordpress it didnt work, downloading it from your site and installing it myself and it worked.
@mongobread: I wanted to keep this plugin simple and just do its main task. I believe there are plugins that can do the redirection the way you want.
I have a few cats that produce a 404 error on two of my sites. Please advise.
Thanks,
Ray
@Ray: Let me know the links.
Hi, the theme Strong Black is excellent. How is the license? Can I modify the footer and remove the links?
Thank you in advance,

Thanks,

You have quite a lot of nice themes – my problem is which one should I take
Thank you for sharing
Same issue with Ray, it doesn’t work for new categories. Need deactivate/reactive again, please fix it!
@iDope Thanks for this plugin! just installed it & removed the category base in one click – v.impressive – It’s awesome
thank you…
I’m waiting for your fix for the new category issue, please!
Thank you for you great work!
The plugin will now update the rewrite rules when categories are added/edited. Please update to the latest version.
iDope, Thank you very much!
I’ll try it soon.
I have downloaded the autotag plugin and activated it. I created my first post and I saw the autotag listings on the side. However, the tags are not showing up on my post. I have a flexibility theme and have checked to make sure the box is ticked yes to display tags below each post. Any ideas why the tags arent displaying?
Thanks
Jenni
Have you made any progress on why the categories aren’t taking priority over page slugs?
Nice theme. After changing the header gave me a nice easy on the eye color combination
Thanks very much. It appears to be fixed.
Ray
Fixed, thank you!
Works a charm. Many many thanks !!
@iDope,
yup, i hope you include it in your next revision. using redirection plugin is tedious
keep up the good work
nice theme
The very best
Hi there. Thanks for a great plugin. Just what I was looking for. There is one issue I can’t resolve.
I am setting up my blog and I have a user called Dummy1 to help me test things. When Dummy1 submits a post for review, I get the email OK but there is no link to click on to approve the post without having to log into my admin account.
From what I understand in reading the plugin description, the plugin will show me the contents of the post and provide me with a link in the email to approve the post without having to log into my admin account (this is what the plugin ‘Change Comment Status’ does for me when dealing with comments). Is my interpretation correct? If so, why isn’t it working for me? Please give me some ideas as to how to fix it.
Thank you very much.
I absolutely LOVE this plugin-there has been NO spam since I started using it.
However, the last few days, I’ve noticed it will sometimes throw an “invalid data” error when a legitimate comment is submitted. It *seems* to be related to the use of ellipses (… at the end of a statement) but I’m not 100% sure.
Using Wordpress 2.7.1, with the latest version of Captcha Free.
Any ideas?
Hi there. I would like to thank you for a great plugin. There is one thing I can’t get it to do.
Is it supposed to send an email with the post’s content and a link to approve the post without having to log into the admin area? Because if it does, I can’t get it to work. I am using WP 2.7.1.
All I get in the email is the author’s name, the title and a review it link.
I use Comment Changes Status and it allows me to click on the approve link in the email and the comment is approved without me having to log into WP. I was hoping that your plugin would do the same thing but for Posts.
Please help as I would love to use this plugin.
Great plugin,Thanks.
BTW, how to control the amount of tags per post?Thanks
Hi, I have installed this plugin on a website I am designing and have run into a small issue regarding category feeds.
It seems to be working fine on all pages but when I set up a feed eg http://www.mysite.com/beta/category/category-name/feed/ it gets re-directed to just
http://www.mysite.com/beta/category-name/
Now could this be because of the fact the site is under a beta filename?
If not is there any fix for this? I have read comment above stating there were problems with category feeds but you said the latest version there is a fix for category feeds.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated. And great plugin!
Thanks.
Tags are always the hardest part about writing blogs, I’ll have to get this tool ASAP.
I really like the look of this one. There is just one problem. The faded text on the papyrus makes it very hard to actually read what you have written in the blog and in the menu bar.
else I would have used it, but what good is this if people cannot read the words you have written due to a background that disturbs the flow for the eyes?
It’s really awesome theme, I was looking for one.
So does it or does it not work when showing subcategories?
The problem is that it works perfectly if you show a link with a category. It does not work if you show links with subcategories. I have my permalink set as /%postname%/ and wondered if it has to be: /%categories%/%postname%/ but that didn’t work either.
Problem is that only one or the other works. If you get it out of the URL, it works everywhere but subcategories. If you put in the category slug, subcategories will work but other areas will not.
Has anyone got all of this to work? If you have, what are your settings.
@Mikey: It should work fine with subcategories and your post permalink structure won’t affect it. Make sure you have the latest 0.6 version.
@Rob: Shouldn’t the feed url be http://www.mysite.com/beta/category-name/feed/ ?
Thank you very much! This plugin works wonderfully & has solved what was an on-going annoyance.
Cheers, mate!
great post man , these themes are really classy and above everything they are completely free
cheers
Nice , but i see better
As per Jason’s request. I need more than one person to be alerted for comment’s. WP has a field for one email only. Comma separation doesn’t work, although it did in older versions.
Promising plugin, but, 2 errors:
1. Stops responses in the admin forms.
2. Stops pingbacks, and the “trackback” test is commented out!
iDope, just want to say Thank You! Your plugin works great!
Be Well,
Dimitry
This is a very nice theme. With lot of option to choose from. Easy to edit & take less less time to load.
great post man , this theme is really classy and above everything they are completely free

I have two different WP installs (2.6.1) on the same domain, one regular and one on a subdomain.
This plugin works fine on the regular install, but on the subdomain one it doesn’t work. I have an SMTP plugin that successfully sends emails from it, but for some reason I am not getting these notifications…
Any suggestions?
nice plugin, but there seems to be a bug in the code whereby if there are more 2 or more forms on a page, and if multiple forms have a ’submit’ element id for the submit button, then the 1st form will get submitted instead.
so, if the 1st form is a search box, it will submit a search query instead of the comment form.
to solve it, change: document.getElementById(’submit’).click();
to: document.getElementById(’commentform’).elements['submit'].click();
Thank you for the plugin! Now every post has a picture
thats really cool!!!
Hey guys, you don’t need a plugin !!!
Just put a period in the Category Base box. That’s it. It works perfectly well.
Mike
hhahahhaa! swine flu. this is funy
I am using this theme on my site, everything good except one problem. It does not display ‘home’ under ‘pages’ if I select a static page display. I tried to see help from wp support here without luck:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/275028?replies=8
Could you suggest how can I add home to the wp_page_menu or wp_page_list…I am not good with php codes.
Thanks in advance
Hello!
Nice plug-in but I can’t make it work! I always have the “invalid-data” error…
php file is in the plugin directory.
Can you help me?
Plugin not working, get the following message when submitting a comment:
“Invalid Data: Please go back and try again.”
Using 2.7.1 WP version and tested on Firefox and Safari. The plugin is in the plugins root folder. The idea is great but it seems only a few here manage to make it work.
“Invalid Data: Please go back and try again.” This error appears when visitors posting comments from any version of IE (for now I have IE8 and testing whith it).
WP 2.7.1 php file in /content/ directory.
The problem appeared after upgrade to WP 2.7 and makes plugin useless. Deactivating solve the problem.
* wp-content/plugins/ directory sorry
Love this theme but the sidebars/widgets don’t seem to work right with it?
Thanks for this great plugin. I’ve been using for many years and have increase traffic due to it picking the right tags.
I have just upgraded to wordpress 2.8 and it nolonger seems to work. The database was upgraded. Could you update.
Thank you
hi.. does this work with WP 2.8?
Because I have used this cool plugin for WP 2.71 and it works fine, but not in 2.8.
thanks
Auto Tagger no longer works with the new WordPress upgrade.
First, awesome plugin. Exactly what I needed.
A minor problem. It seems that capitalization makes a difference. For example, these will yield different results:
http://www.spacevidcast.com/sts-127
http://www.spacevidcast.com/STS-127
It would be awesome if case didn’t make a difference as technically people should spell out STS on our site, but realistically many won’t. Anything I can do on my side to change that behavior?
@Mike Tommasi: The problem with that is your URLs will have a period in them.
@Bencredible: I believe that is the default Wordpress behavior as well. Wordpress slugs are in lower case only.
@ibrahim: Your theme may be at fault here. As per HTML specs element IDs should be unique:
http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/global.html#h-7.5.2
@iDope, not 100% sure. I know that WP categories always want to be lower case, but check out this example (where both work but go to different places):
http://www.spacevidcast.com/sts-125/
http://www.spacevidcast.com/STS-125/
So WP can see both cases and guide them to different locations, but it can’t seem to do the same thing for both cases.
VERRRY COOOLLLLLLL…………..
I just upgraded to WP 2.8 and it seems your wonderful plugin has stopped working. Is this the case, or could it be something else?
Hi,
I like your plugin, but I just upgraded the above blog to WP 2.8 and it appears that the plugin is not compatible with 2.8. It doesn’t create any errors, but it also doesn’t do anything. I reloaded from my harddisk, same results. I downloaded the pluging again, repeated the upload, still no success – it’s there but it doesn’t produce any tags.
Hope you check it out?
Jimmy Craig
I am using Wordpress MU and the 2.8 version for it is not available yet. I’ll update as soon as I can upgrade to 2.8.
This plugin is working fine when shortening links to Pages.
However, when clicking on Category hyperlinks i get a “Page Not Found” response.
Any idea why this occurs?
@Bencredible: I am looking into the issue.
@Jamie: This plugin does *not* affect page links. It changes category links only. Can you show me the links it is giving a 404 on?
Hi IDope!
is this plugin working with Wordpress 2.8?
Thanks
sorry but this does not work in IE
the image is distorted
This unique CAPTCHA system is looking nice and easy. This captcha will require just one click and post a comment. Thanks for sharing this information.
I appreciate all your work for creating the files to help prevent from spam. This type of button is helpful for the commenter to post their comment without any error.Thanks for the post.
I have the same problem as others. It works only for regular links to remove “category” but if you have a sub cat and subcat, it removes the word but you get a page not found error. e.g.
cars/audi/1980/
and then it will list all the car articles from the 1980 audi. That category list gets a page not found. I could never get any of these category removers to work with WPMU, ever. I wasted weeks on this. Glad to try it again and see but that was my original problem.
@Ricardo: Yes, it will work fine with Wordpress 2.8.
@Mike: I myself use Wordpress MU and and works fine with it. Can you give me a link where its not working?
I can but I’ll simply tell you since I have to turn it off… who knows, maybe it is an httaccess, conflicting plugin, but it didn’t work when I tried the first time. I will install it on my new blog and test.
mysite.com/vehiclesblog/cars/audi/
What will happen is that links will be rewritten as the above instead of this:
mysite.com/vehiclesblog/cateogry/cars/audi
The problem is the above link yields a 404 error with the plugin. The link is rewritten properly but the server doesn’t know where it is. However, if you type in the URL as above with category in it, the page works for wordpress. Using the plugin it is ONLY in that usage.
Let me as you this – do you need to have anything as the baseurl? Right now I have nothing there.
Running WP 2.7 and the most recent version of WP Captcha Free and it is apparently working nicely.
FYI, this plugin needs updating for WP 2.8. Ever since upgrading, it will email anytime a pending post is changed and saved, not just the first time it’s saved.
This change seems to do the trick:
94c94
< if ($new_status == ‘pending’) {
—
> if ($new_status == ‘pending’ && $old_status != ‘pending’) {
Hello, I’ve been using your plugin for a few days and I have both a question and a comment.
Firstly, the comment: on line 86 of captcha-free.php you open a <small> tag but never close it. Just thought I’d point that out.
Secondly, why don’t you use your own plugin on your comment forms here?
@Mythender: Thanks for the feedback. But I do close the <small> tag. Maybe you have an older version?
I also wrote the Clickcha plugin I use here and it got the space since its the newer one
@sayeed: That was due to a bug in IE6 that renders an incorrect height when you specify “height: auto” for an image. I had forgotten IE6, but it keeps rearing its ugly head
.
Thanks for letting me know. I have fixed this in the updated version.
ahh I see about Clickcha
as for the tag, I downloaded and installed version 0.5 of the plugin automatically through the wordpress plugin directory and everything below my comment form became… well… small….
reading the document source I found the missing tag and looking into the code of your plugin led me to line 87:
Please note: JavaScript is required to post comments.
it works now thanks
Hey,
Everything works fantastic! I had one quick concern/question though – If I use decoratr the picture links to the original source, which is of course ok. But, I would like to disable this on the homepage. Instead, I’d prefer that clicking on the picture opens the post. Is this functionality available?
HI
Nice plug-in but I can’t make it work! I always have the “invalid-data” error…
php file is in the plugin directory.
help me
Nice template design. Simple but attractive.
Lovely theme for a very special day. Good job!
I have released an updated version that will handle redirections from the old category links. It uses 301 permanent redirect which will transfer your PR to the new link and is good for SEO.
Brilliant plugin. Thank you for your time in developing this. This is something that WP should implemented from the very beginning.
Will this new updated version solve the subcategory issue that is stated above? The problem is that the two category level still yields the category word in the URL. I’m wondering if this isn’t solved and, if not, how neat it would be to be able to change it like, e.g. from category to “car” or something like that. You can’t enter that into Wordpress or it will use it every time, no matter how deep.
@The Law Professor: I haven’t been able to reproduce that issue on my blogs. Let me know the links if its happening on yours.
Try this:
http://boldplan.com/scripts/hideurl/2/
I haven’t used it on here but you’ll see what wordpress does with this site. Implementing the plugin causes the nonfunction in Mike’s posts.
Hi,
thanks for the plugin.
I have problems with WPMU and BuddyPress.
1. Some categories get 404, i don’t know why.
http://www.apfelcenter.de/reviews/software-reviews/
http://www.apfelcenter.de/reviews/hardware-reviews/
2. Blogs of Wordpress don’t come in. they’re catched by rewrite rule and are searched for equal categories. I use the subdirectory method of WPMU.
@halk: The software-reviews category is displaying fine. The hardware-reviews category is giving a 404 possibly because there are no posts in it (which is the default Wordpress behavior).
The links below bypass the Wordpress url rewriting engine (and hence this plugin) and should work weather the plugin is enabled or not.
http://www.apfelcenter.de/?category_name=reviews/software-reviews
(works, as does its rewritten version)
http://www.apfelcenter.de/?category_name=reviews/hardware-reviews
(404, indicating that either this category doesn’t exist or it has no posts)
Missed the second part of your question. In MU, are you copying the plugin to the ‘mu-plugins’ folder or the ‘plugins’ folder? Plugins copied to the mu-plugins folder do not require activation and hence their activation hook never gets called. This is what updates the cached rewrite rules initially. However it is easy to refresh the rewrite rules just by visiting the ‘Permalinks’ page in the Wordpress admin.
thanks for your reply. Actually I managed the 1. problem with debugging an own plugin. I actually tested with disabling plugins, but maybe I forgot one.
any ideas about 2. problem?
I forgot to refresh.
Should I try with moving the plugin into mu-plugins?. I’ll try that.
great theme
Regards!
Boblee
I love this theme! Thank you!
Look how it looks like on my blog.
The plugin is working, but every post I run this on shows me a group of photo options labeled “undefined (tag)”. Those photos are always the same. Why am I getting that “undefined” grouping?
I have released a new version in which the check is bypassed for logged-in users. Replying to comments from Wordpress admin should work now.
I did an automatic upgrade through my 2.8 WP site and got this message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_current_user() in /home/nispiros/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 920
Afterwards I couldn’t get to the site until I deleted the plugin through FTP .
I get the same exact error as rolando.
AHHH. Any chance of getting the old version up or the new one fixed? I really like this plugin. But as rolando I had to delete it via FTP to get my blog running again
Result of late night coding
This has been fixed now, please get the latest version.
The ONE and ONLY that work for %/%category%/%postname%/
))) Thank you very much!
this plugin have been installed on my web
Thank you! Working again
Thanks for the fix!
This great plugin DOES work but only for main categories. It does not work for subcategories – that’s the problem I’m having. It’s really great but when you add it in for subcategories they break. I’ve unfortunately confirmed this at least in MU. I’ll see what happens in regular MP but I’m guessing it is the same.
If your MU is using sub-directory based blogs that might cause a problem as that changes the path. It works fine with sub-domain based MU blogs (which I use).
Subdomain is different than subdirectory. I hesitated to use subdomain due to SEO and the fact that finagling with subdomains can complication many things, at least from what I saw. Personally I think it would be a nice way to break things up on my site but not sure it’s worth the potential SEO hit for content on a site. But I digress – it just doesn’t work with sub-subdirectories, two levels.
/carsblog/audi/204sg/
This breaks and leaves page not found.
Man, i have to say this
Thank so much for your support. My blog will never launched without your help.
Actually they are already testing MU 2.8.1, so time to get with the program.
http://ocaoimh.ie/wordpress-mu-2-8-1-beta/
Peace,
Gene
I love your plugin, especially the simplicity of it. Would really appreciate a 2.8 compatible update. How’s it looking? Are you working on it yet? Thanks so much for making this plugin available!
Works great, thank you
First, for anyone doubting this plugin, it works exactly as it says. Brilliant!! It worked from the beginning, and I didn’t even have to clear my cache.
Unfortunately, I had to deactivate it.
My website has 2 pages that are a big focus. I currently have 2 main homepage posts redirecting to these pages. Long story, but to easily do this, I have created a category for each of these 2 posts. This plug-in gives the category priority over the page as it says. I didn’t find this to be a problem for me until I was finishing my testing. If this isn’t a problem for anyone, I recommend it to you.
iDope: Is there a way for me to make the page have priority over the category when both the page and category have the same name?? Or do you have plans for the next version to allow the user to select what they want to take priority?
Thanks for your time.
Actually, if you (or anyone) can advise me how to easily redirect a specific category to the specific page (while using your plug-in), that should be a good solution to my issue. I really love this plug-in and want to use it.
Please help!!
This plug-in works in some instances but falls down in others.
Kudos to iDope for building it, but there is a FAR, FAR simpler way to do this in the “Permalinks” page in your wordpress back-end
All you need to place in the category base field is a period. JUST ONE SINGLE, SOLITARY PERIOD!!
Go and try it!!
@Jamie: Please let me know the cases where it fails for you.
The period workaround does work but that adds a period to all your URLs kinda defeating the purpose.
@iDope
I found it unable to affect the links as provided by my theme – perhaps i was setting it up wrong, i don’t know
The period doesn’t add a period to the URL. I was expecting it to, but it really doesn’t!
@Jamie: Let me know the link to your blog.
You can’t see the period when you mouseover the link as the browser automatically normalizes the link (’./’ is treated as the same directory on most file systems, i.e. ‘/’). If you view the source of the page the periods in the links will be visible (and they will be visible to search engine bots as well).
Love the plugin, but there seems to be no way to stop it from auto tagging when I update a post. If I delete tags I don’t want, they just get added again next time I save the post. Don’t seem to be able to remove unwanted tags at all.
Followup to my question from yesterday: if I change a category name (so I don’t have to worry about the 2 categories that will have the same page link), is there a way I can redirect those 2 categories to a specific page?
I’ve used this plugin in the past on another site and loved it. However, I’ve installed on a new site with WP 2.7 and I keep getting a “cannot connect to Flickr” error.
Could you please let me know what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance
Getting the “Invalid data” error when submitting. I’ve left it up for now at my site above. I made sure I copied it to the root of my wp-content/plugins directory and activated it. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Ok, here’s what I see. $_POST['captchafree'] seems to not be being populated. It looks like my theme (Fusion) is calling comment_form:
ID); ?>
Not sure if that’s correct or not, but maybe that helps. Thanks again.
@Cory: Looks like your theme doesn’t have the ‘comment_form’ hook. Enter the following code right before the closing tag in the comments.php file of the theme.
<?php do_action(’comment_form’, $post->ID); ?>
Works as advertised, does what i was looking for. Makes wordpress a tad closer to a cms. I hope that it is at the wordpress plugins repository so that we will be getting the updates automaticly.
Plug in works great, but I have encountered a problem. My SMTP plug-in send all notifications through a gmail account. If I add one email address to your plug-in, it works perfect. If I add another, i get a kickback in the gmail account.
May or may not be a plug-in issue, more curious if you have ever encountered this or anything like it.
Thanks.
the best theme!!! congratulations
Thanks for the great plugin! It works exactly like it’s supposed to.
Do you think you could add the same thing for tags in the url?
Breaks WP2.8.1 by fouling up the edit box for pages. Edit for posts works OK. Deactivating it got me working again.
The Auto Tagger isn’t working at all in 2.8.1. =( This is one of my most useful plugins, too. I’m thinking about reverting to 2.7.1 just to get this plugin back…
Thanks for the hard work.
Great work. I was having a problem where I could access a wordpress category, but I would get a 404 error on anything that was on /page/2/ or beyond. This problem every since upgrading to wordpress 2.8. After googling for hours, i stumbled upon this fix. I figured I would try it and sure enought, it fixed my category problem.
Hello iDope,
thanks a lot for the beautiful plugin…. Its working fine for me….
I came across this page searching for “Invalid Data: go back and try again” error…
I am not getting the error in ur plugin but in “Wordpress Threads Comment” plugin…
In that plugin I had enabled AJAX support. I tried to debug and found that it works fine till displaying the messsage “submitting comment……..” But after that the xmlhttprequest.status = 500 instead of 200. Do you have any idea about where it is failing ?
As soon as i deactivate the plugin , all works fine and visitors and post comment.
Also point is that if I am logged in as Admin and try to post the comment, it works fine. !!!
Most of the comments on that plugin with the :Invalid data…..” problem are unsolved and unanswered
It would be very kind of you if u could just guide me….
thanks a lot….
I like this templates. I hope you will add some more template with different colors. i like the color combination’s of this template and 3 three columns as well. Keep up the good work.
Hello iDope,
wasn’t expecting that u wudn’t approve my comment….
btw, it wasn’t the problem of the WP Thread Comments Plugin but now I think it was the problem of this plugin…
As soon as I disabled the WP Captcha Free Plugin, the ajax comment started working !!!
btw, I even tried to use other ajax comment plugin but same problem with all….
So can u guide me what should i do ??
I hope u won’t unapprove this comment as it is pertaining to YOUR plugin problem…
thanks for the help…
Hello idope,
I m really sorry… when i made the previous comment, the last comment that i was able to see was urs i.e. of July 10.. so i felt that u unapproved it
but after i submitted the above one, the previous one was also visible…
thanks….
I have installed and configured this to send emails to 2 users. I then submitted a post for review via my contributor userid. Neither user recieved an email. I did change my wordpress email settings to send emails from news@semva.com instead of the default. I also added a mailbox to my server for wordpress@semva.com, but still no emails where sent.
This plugin works just as it should compared to others I’ve tried. I’d like to know if you have any plans to add removing /tag/ from tag urls?
I fixed my problem by switching to use the php mail() function instead of smtp.
Really nice n cool plugin..
thanks for sharing..
Hey there!
first of all thanx a bunch for this great plugin. this is what i was searching for a while.
now, that i have installed and activated it.
and set the permalinks, custom to category/post.html
i can have the link for my posts to-
myblog.com/category/post.html
perfectly.
though, once i added a few sub-categories, its still showing the same way- myblog.com/category/post.html rather than myblog.com/category/sub-category/post.html?
Any help or suggestions?
Thanx and Regards
This plugin is GREAT, it works so smoothly! Thank you so much!
Please get the latest version. If there are still any problems let me know.
@Trey: There is a redirection plugin that does does that.
@SolidState: Yes, this plugin is available in the Wordpress plugins repository. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-no-category-base/
Hey!
Good theme you have there, especially since there arent much poker wordpress themes available. I might use it on some of my future sites!
Thank you for sharing your lifetime with us, works great
I have released a new version which works properly with page editor and fixes some other bugs.
Hi there, any chance you can ajax your clickcha plugin so a new page is NOT shown when there is an error? just an error message?
Thanks, ps great plugin!
@Sapan: I don’t think this plugin can coexist with “Wordpress Threads Comment” as they both control how the comment gets posted using ajax.
@Gyro: The plugin does use ajax and most of your genuine commenters (the ones that have Javascript enabled) will not see that page.
wow, cool deal and nice n cool plugin
thanks for sharing !
Thanks for the nice plugin. It solved out my lots of problems.
Hi,
Did you manage to solve the problem with the qtranslate plugin?
Is there a solution?
thank you
congratulationss for the plugin
like others, thanks for creating and sharing this.
just super ………..
Hey thanks for your great plugin.
It helps me save time by automatically Tagging.
God Bless You !
~ BlaZe
I’ve updated to the latest version, and I still continue to get the “cannot connect to Flickr” error.
Any idea what else to look at?
Thanks,
Barbara
I love how this comment form works..
hhehehehe
Nice theme, thanks for sharing the info!
This is one of the most useful plugins I have come across. It is great to be able to eliminate spam while not inconveniencing your blog visitors. Great job,
The phrase Blog Name remains.
Great job, but has one bug.
It does not work with names (urls) of SUBCATEGORIES writen in non english languages. Russian for example in my case. ;-(
I try setlocale, but it does not help me.
Trouble is somewhere in WP engine?
I just love it. Generally, I love this kind of “different” themes. Clean-cut themes are nice but always makes me feel that I run a corporate blog. Especially if they’re blue and white. Nope, this style, little bit grungy, little bit childish, little bit one collumn on the focus and the second just on the side is just wonderful for my taste. Thanks for the effor.
I like the theme design, great design and color matching.
David
I love the theme, i will use it.
this theme has a simple but attractive look and works fine.
using with WPMU 2.8.4a and everything is working flawlessly.
Many thanks
With WPML multilingual plugin this plugin works on archives but not on single post pages.
Putting \. in the Category base without any plugin seems to work, but the URL in source actually has a /./ instead of /category/ – but the links actually work. Not sure if this dot thing is a problem – will this come back to bite me?
@Mike Tommasi: This plugin *only* changes category permalinks (and by extension, category feed permalinks) as I have mentioned several times. Archive and single post links should remain the same as before.
OK thx, but the problem is interaction with WPML. I use a different URL for each language, when I add your plugin all URLs go back to the english language one.
@Keith: I can’t reproduce the problem here. I am running Wordpress 2.8.4. Maybe it was a Wordpress bug introduced in one of the 2.8 releases and is now fixed?
Spoke too soon, I was able to reproduce it and the fix suggested by Keith works. Thanks
in reading through the docs + comment threads, i see that this plugin is supposed to handle subcategories, creating a URL with /category/subcategory/postname/ . (though i also see some people want that and have trouble making it work.) what i’m looking for is the opposite: i want to include _only_ the top-level category in the permalink, regardless of whether the particular post has subcategories. can this plugin do it?
thanks.
Thanks man, you solved all the problems I had with Top level category
You are a saint! I’ve been trying to fix this dang problem for far to long. Thanks so much!
Main page pagination works fine, but category pagination cracks and gives a 404 error. my categories are written in Arabic (UTF8). any ideas? Thanks
btw, i am not using any other plugin, just yours
This plugin was incredible! My pages were getting a 404 not found error but this worked flawlessly. Thank you!!!
Hey iDope,
Great work, congratulations. Just one request tough:
Your plugin removes more than the category-base, which makes it incompatible with multilanguage plguins that ad a locale indication to the URL (e.g. /pt/ for portuguese etc). I use WPML, and i have tested locally to come to this conclusion.
Any chance you would take a look at the issue soon? Your plugin is a blessing multi-lingual sites can’t have!
Thanks, Eduardo
This plugin really owns. It should be a default option in Wordpress to have it this way.. but… well… :f
Simple and working – thanks.
Installed easily and worked perfectly on version 2.8.5. It completely solved my problem. Thank you very much!
Thanks for the theme. It’s simple and nice!
Thanks a lot. Such a nice plugin.
Really nice n cool plugin..
thanks for sharing
Hi iDope, great plug-in.
But i ran into a problem with WPML as Tommasi above, but for me it works for he posts and pages but with Categories and Archive lists i get 404.
Any ideas?
Hi,
should this work also for tag base? It seems that it does not.
wow great one
This is truly a great plugin. I was trying to remove the category base from code but that we very frustrating. Thanks for this time saving plugin. I really like your captcha too.
Thank You very much!
The omy.sg linked me here now.
I have problems submitting blog reply to chimkang’s blog in omy.sg
Please help me as i like to go to his blog and i share with friends there…..pls don’t disregard me ! Please !
@LEONG: I was able to post a comment just fine on your blog. Are you getting an error?
Excellent WP plugin, thanks for sharing this.
iDope, thank you!
This plugin is amazing, and adds something to wordpress that I have been wanting for many years now.
I remember searching long and hard about 2 years ago for something like this.
Just activate, and it works flawlessly, you have thought of everything!
Many thanks for the great plugin! Keep up the great work.
The only problem is if you name the same name title of a category and a page. Wordpress will go nuts which one will be displayed.
